- Abstract
The marine aquaculture sector is a rapidly growing industry, operating mainly in near-shore areas as of now. Due to the increasing demand for marine proteins and in line with the sustainable development goals, researchers, industry, and policy makers are shifting their focus to offshore systems. A detailed knowledge of the hydrodynamic mechanisms is necessary to facilitate the design of such farming systems. In this context a basic long-line system was physically modelled in a wave flume to determine and assess the forces and accelerations acting on the system. Conclusions regarding the importance of mussel dropper lines as a major drag element are drawn from the recorded tensions and accelerations.
