Abstract

Bogotá's rapid urbanisation from the second half of the 20th century onwards turned six surrounding villages into parts of today's metropolis. Spatial, social and discursive changes in this process are examined from an urban design perspective. The polycentric view from the periphery opens up a new understanding of continuous and dynamic transformations of the metropolis, the significance of places and architecture and the transformative potential of cultural heritage.
