Abstract

This article describes the interaction between universities and their regional environment and draws conclusions about the importance of single transfer channels, determinants and transfer barriers. First of all, transfer channels are presented through which a university can reach its regional environment. It is shown that the extent and quality of the transfer success depend on various influencing factors, for example on university-oriented determinants, which affect the intensity and extent of transfer success. In addition, regional determinants influence the capacity with which a region, as a transfer recipient, can absorb the transfer effects of higher education and translate them into welfare effects and economic growth. Furthermore, examples of obstacles that make transfer from higher education institutions more difficult are discussed. Finally, the article gives an outlook on further research needs
