Abstract

The paper deals with the extent of and the reasons for socioeconomic disparities between both countries and groups of countries. It is shown that during the recent phase of emerging globalization socioeconomic disparities have grown for several indicators. Based upon the assumption that globalization and its aspects as growing international trade and foreign direct investment are the major power behind recent economic restructuring of the world economy it is argued that behaviour of firms (especially those which act internationally) tends to increase socioeconomic disparities between countries and especially between developed countries and newly industrialised countries from southeast asia on the one hand and fourth world countries on the other hand. The latter's share of worldwide foreign inward investment as well as exports has decreased during the recent globalization process. Consequently we have to consider a great gap among developing countries which is going to increase in the future if no real "globalization of the globalization" will occur.
