CO 2-Reduktion durch effiziente elektrothermische Prozesstechnik

Abstract

At a percentage of around 66%, the industrial process-heat sector dominates German industry's overall consumption of final energy. For this reason, in addition to energy-route recycling and continuous further improvement of the energy-efficiency of the various heating and melting technologies, it is necessary even today also to balance and reduce the CO 2 emissions resulting, taking account of the complete energy process chain, in order to be properly equipped at an early stage for future challenges in the field of thermal process engineering. The following article firstly shows how, depending on the final energy used, in the form of electricity, gas or coal, the various energy process chains result in differing CO 2 emissions data. It becomes apparent that the increasing percentage of electrical energy generated using regenerative means will, in future, bring about further reduction of the CO 2 emissions resulting from the use of electrothermal process technologies. These trends are illustrated in this article, citing the example of the energy-intensive melting of metals.
